Another bag! Summerstripe Bag’n Tote

Summer Stripe Bag

I think I’ve caught the bug! I know I have caught the bug! The bag bug… I am wanting to spend my “spare”’ time (not to be confused with time made to spare because I’m not doing something I SHOULD be doing). I had fun with this one. The fabric is wonderful. Its MY bag this time. Next time I make it instead of using the cord to close it I’ll put on some kind of neat? Closure. It’s a bit tedious to knot the cord as a closure. I do like the look of the grommets though. It can look like a regular tote or you can close the middle and have the other look which I like. I’ll add that picture later. Fun! The next one will go to my Etsy Shop.

The tote look……making the tote a bag…tie up and then you have the bag look..

Mail That Alarm Clock…Cat!

Kelly Sleeping

I’m tired today! Up with the cat…darn Kelly! I normally could depend on her as an alarm to wake me up for work. Her internal clock is always as good as mine might be on a good day. Normally she calls me from outside my room with a certain noise I swear sounds like “muuum…nowww”. She knows where my first stop out of bed is…and then the next stop is to give her a tablespoon of canned food…her first “treat” of the day  followed by the same when I come home from work. In between she can graze on Science Diet dry food throughout the day. Anyway…this is the second time this week she is UP on my bed roaming around me in such a state…making such a howling noise…35 minutes before I have to even THINK of getting up. I don’t know where that’s coming from. I didn’t get to bed very early last night and her insistence was not appreciated.

This is a picture of her in a cozy position…in a lettersized envelope box I’ve had sitting in that spot for about 4 years…I replace it as I need to…you can see she is all curled perfect in it…resting…as I quietly snip her picture. Maybe I’ll close the top one day and mail her to someone else who requires an alarm clock!

Madeline

Madeline in the Sandbox

This is my granddaughter Madeline who will be 3 in July. She is my only grandchild at this point. How surprised we all were to have a little girl in the family since to this point we had all boys..except for me. :o) I have one brother who has 2 sons, and my ex has one brother who has 2 sons and I have 2 sons. I was always so happy to have 2 boys. Boys are just what they are – boys…and thats great. Madeline is such a .. girl. She is SO good and she has always been so entertaining. Little girls clothes are sooo cute. I have made her some things…a quilted bunting bag, fleece poncho and hat, blankets etc. I started knitting her a little sweater but she outgrew it before I actually had it finished.

I found this little pattern for a little dress. I also found this material that I think will work well. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Friday Night BBQ

We had a nice bbq dinner – Marc and I on Friday night. He marinated these pork chops in a garlic teriyaki type of sauce and then grilled it to perfection I’d say. We had some corn and roast potatoes…nice glass of wine…picture perfect and so yummy. We were going to have strawberries with something….shortcake…whip cream…icecream…we had our choice. Dinner ended up being rather late – we got a bit sleepy…and we forgot all about the dessert until breakfast time. oh well…

Memorial Day in the USA

vadlellia-onion.jpg

It turned out to be a beautiful weekend in Waterport, NY for Memorial Day. Last weekend was Victoria Day here in Canada and this weekend Memorial Day. Our arrangement, Marc’s and mine gives us extra celebrations each year. Marc is from Waterport, NY and I am in Aurora, Ontario. The weekends always find us either here or there and we have the opportunity to celebrate some holidays double.

For instance we celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving in October, American Thanksgiving in November, July 1st Canada Day and 4th of July in the States and as I mentioned above we have two celebrations in May.

This weekend we shared a picnic with friends for Memorial Day. Everyone brought something yummy to pass. We like to try something new and what better way to share something new?…. with guinea pigs….people who are willing to sample something that everyone is sampling for the first time. This could be risky but generally either everyone is polite or we have been lucky with our choices. We made…..

Vadelia Onion and Cheese Dip… Very yummy and very easy to prepare. Ingredients:

3 large vadelia onions chopped coarsely, 1 cup mayo, 2 cups grated cheddar cheese, 1/2 tsp. minced garlic, 1 tbsp tabasco sauce (or to taste) – we added more, a few red pepper flakes. Thats it!

All you do is saute the onions until they are nicely soft and have that nice yellow/brown glow. Mix the other ingredients in a bowl and add the onions. Place in a 1-1/2 quart greased casserole and bake 30 minutes uncovered at 375F. We served them with those neat square Triskets or you could also use scoopables or nacho chips. We had requests for the recipe. :o)

Lavender

Lavender Flowers

Lavender is such a popular herb with many uses. The essential oil as well as the dried herb can be used. Lavender essential oil is one of the few that can be applied directly to your skin. Add 10 drops to about 30 mL of carrier oil – grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil for a lovely massage oil. It has wonderful skin healing properties for psoriasis, acne, insect bites and small burns for example. It has become a favourite for both females and males.

It is know to uplift your mood, ease your sleep, aid with depression. It is very calming….add a few drops to a hanky or material and tuck under your pillow for a more peaceful sleep.

I came across a recipe for a Carpet Refresher as follows:

Ingredients: 1 cup sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), 10-20 drops lavender 40/42 essential oil Instructions: Mix well and place in a container that is covered overnight to absorb. Then all you do is sprinkle some on your carpet before vacuuming. mmmmmmm…nice smelling.

Did you know you can also bake/cook with it? I haven’t yet but I’m checking out the recipes and will share and let you know more about this…has anyone used lavender in baking?

I enjoy a burning lavender soy candle….a soothing bath with lavender bath salts… so nice… :o)

A New Beach Bag/Tote

Blue Tote/Bag

After my 3 hour drive back home from Waterport today I was just dying to do some crafting. Even though it was Victoria Weekend I guess I left early enough before everyone else hit the roads so the traffic was good. That must be why I had time to think of what I would do when I got home. Anyway. Its another Beach Bag/Tote.

I call it a beach bag because the lining is waterproof like the first one I made and that is on sale in my Etsy store. You could actually use it for doing the “tourist thing” or when you are going shopping around home too. Pack a picnic in it….put in baby’s goodies when you are going out someplace…hmmmm…you can use it for so many different reasons.

Baby Shower & Gift

731428792207_0_bg.jpgJungle Scene Chenille Like Baby BlanketClose up of Baby Blanket

Janet had her baby shower yesterday. She’s due on June 28th…her dad’s birthday is on the 30th. Maybe he’ll get a very special birthday present this year. :o) The shower was held at a lovely dance studio that belongs to one of her best friends. The little one received so many presents. Its all so exciting. I think its going to be a boy and I believe apart from her mother-in-law we’re all guessing she’s carrying like “a boy”.  We can’t wait. One of the presents I gave her was this baby blanket I made. It is made up of different layers and cut and the more you wash it the more chenille like it becomes. The closeup picture was taken before the required washings were done to create the chenille look.

The fabric is wonderful. I will be offering some in my store but in a different print. I’ve had quite a bit of interest in this blanket as well as requests for instructions. I had seen someone elses version of a chenille type blanket someplace once and I came home and worked at making my own version of it. Although I’ve never made a pattern I may work at one for this blanket that I can put up for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Now we’ll just sit and wait for the little bundle of joy to arrive..

Story Behind the Creations Gift Basket

This is one of my favourite soaps (apart from Lavender) that I enjoy making. It has a wonderful lather and contains goat’s milk to give it the properties as well as the milky look. I embed different coloured soap chunks so the effect is jewel like. It smells fabulous…fruity.

Good Life Fitness in town is having an auction so last night I dropped off a basket for them. I included a whole variety of my handmade products including a pair of earrings that had a leaf on it which hung from a little silver chain…dangling off the silver hook. I hope it will help them with their cause. I took a picture of it before I ran out the door to deliver it.

I invite you to visit my Creations by Judi online store.
