Madeline in Florida

This is a picture of Madeline in Florida this spring. I love this picture. I can just imagine that warm sand under little feet…the little footsteps she’s watching on that beautiful, bright, sunny day.

She was excited about going to Florida…and walking on the beach…which was kind of cute because she had no idea what Florida was and it had been a year since she’d been on a beach at age 2.   Sweet.

3 Rounds of Memory Wire Bracelet

3 Rounds of Memory Wire BraceletGoing along with the theme of wanting something new for me I made this bracelet. It has a smooth oval white and brassy beads with triangular beads in between. Does anyone else love to use the memory wire? I think its so great and looks good too. This one has 3 strands.

3 Colour Handmade Bracelet

I haven’t beaded for some time and had lovely coloured glass beads ready to be worn.  I used a small chain and wire wrapped each black, purple and pink bead to it.  With the bags I’ve been making lately and the baby things I haven’t been making much jewellery.  Well… now I think I’ve rediscovered beading. I really enjoy it.  The beads have wonderful motion as you move your wrist.  Pretty.

New Bar Stool Cushions

I brought home  the 3 bar stool cushions from the cottage that needed to be replaced along with a pair of yellow multiflower curtains I would use to recover them with.  It was an easy task and all I had to do was take apart one of the old cushions and use that as a template for the cushion cover pieces and band.  I replaced the foam by cutting another thin piece the same size.  The width of the band was the width of the chair plus 3″.

I sewed along 1/2″ along the side of the band and gathered up the threads, then pinned the gathered side to the right side of one of the cushion circles.  Then I sewed the band on.  I pinned the right side of the other cushion top to the right side of the first one keeping the band tucked inside.  I sewed the two cushions together leaving 4″ open and turned the cushions right side.  The new, thin foam I had cut to the size of the cushion was inserted, then I hand sewed the opening.

After folding under 1/4″ of the band, ironing it I folded it again about 1/2″ wider than the 1″ elastic I was going to use.  Then I sewed along the edge of the fold to make a casing.  Attaching a safety pin to one end of the elastic I ran it through the casing.  Both ends of the elastic were sewn together.  I folded in both ends of the band which was a little longer than the stool and hand sewed the 2 ends together.  Thats all there was to it.  The elastic is tight enough to stay under the bar stool to hold the cushion snug.

I’ve made one already and another 2 more to go.  Then I’ll use the rest to recover a rocker seat cover.   You just can’t see brightness of the yellow in this cushion.  It is pretty.

Early Delivery

New Mother’s Teddy Bear Bracelet

The baby was born this weekend…on Saturday…5 days early. We were excited when we got a call on Friday evening that her water had broke and they were getting ready to go to the hospital. Things on Saturday were going along just fine and they were busy text messaging (in the labour room) and making cell phone calls to everyone about the progress. Everything was going as well as could be expected until the doctors discovered they would have to do a c-section.

We weren’t aware of any complications at 5:00 p.m. when we decided to drive to the hospital and wait there rather than wait for a call and then make the 1 hour drive. Well….we got there at 7:00 p.m.and waited in the birthing waiting room until 10:18 when the new little baby boy was born. We were able to see the baby before we left and he is gorgeous. 8 lbs and 21 inches in length. What an exciting evening it was. How happy the new mom and dad were….and the new grandpa….we all were. :o)

I made this bracelet for the new mom. It has a little silver teddy bear and 2 little charms, one reads JOY and the otehr LOVE. I know she likes the colour blue…

tn_strawberry-cake-004.jpgIt took me 4 hours to drive home today. On the way I stopped and picked up more strawberries. I made a strawberry cake to share at work. During everything that has gone on lately they have been so supportive at work I wanted to thank them with this cake.

It is a 2 layer cake which is actually only made with barely 4 ingredients. Then I moistened the 2 layers with a special sugar and rum mixture then loaded the whip cream (lower fat version), strawberries, grapes and kiwi fruit. After it sits overnight it’ll be at its peak tomorrow and the next day. The Thank You note on the top is made on melted white chocolate. I’d share with you….

Hospital Gift Basket

On Mother’s Day when I had gone in to see my father in the hospital, I brought a basket of my handmade soaps for the nurses and staff.  They had been so good to my father.

WinniethePooh Recycled Bag

Winnie Golf Shirt BagHere is another bag I’ve made. I truly have become addicted to making bags. As I make one another idea comes to mind. With all these bags I’ve been making I couldn’t believe we were stuffing extra sweatshirts to take with us into grocery bags! I had a green garbage bag full of shirts and sweatshirts he had been clearing out of his closet that I was taking to the thrift shop…*s*. I recycled his WinniethePooh golf shirt and another fleece sweatshirt to make up this little bag.

My Cherished Bunnies

Fall BunnyFriends BunniesGardening Bunnies

A while back on a trip to Marc’s in New York State I stopped at a garage sale.  The couple had set up from their garage all kinds of displays and collectables and most of the items were vintage and brand new.  It was just beginning to rain and as they were trying to pack up I was feverishly scouting through the “My Cherished Bunnies” and she seemed just as anxious to be clearing them out.  I got them for next to nothing and some even came in their boxes.  I collect bunnies…but not the real kind.  Here are some I was able to purchase.  I wish she’d open up again….  These are just 3 of them.

I was away from here for a while…

I haven’t been here for a few weeks.  My father passed away in the beginning of June.  We miss him terribly.   It was not expected at this time but then when is it ever expected.  We just live day by day and should cherish each of those days because we never know day to day…
