Child’s Vintage Pillowcase Dress … Vacation Thursday..

This is a better picture of the placement of my vintage “ladies in frame” I posted about earlier this week.

This is ANOTHER beautiful day on my vacation and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside sipping my morning coffee.   I absolutely LOVE my morning coffee…MORNING coffee then after that I’m set for the next 24 hours.  Sometimes, I go to bed just thinking of how I’ll love waking up in the morning anticipating that yummy coffee.  Crazy…or do you feel the same?   But just the morning one.  I like to have a cup of tea in the afternoon but neither coffee or tea past 7:00 p.m. because then  I know that even counting sheep won’t put me to sleep.

I made the vintage pillowcase dress for Madeline last night from this week Tuesday’s thrifting finds.   I posted a tutorial a few days if you are interested on how simple it is to make.

Doesn’t the hemlook look cute at the pillowcase edge     What a fun day I had yesterday I was able to work on different projects and do my own thing.

My eldest son, his wife and Madeline are coming over tonight for dinner.  So I’ll have Madeline try it on.  I have enough material from the top of the pillowcase to make a similar dress for a doll I’ve made some time ago.  She needs a dress and then she can go home with Madeline.  We’re having fajitas so I’ve been doing up the peppers, onions, chicken, mushroom ahead of time.   It’ll be a short visit because she has soccer tonight so I’m going to be prepared so we can visit a while.  (If you check the post after this you’ll see Madeline modelling the vintage pillowcase dress-now I want to make more!)

On that note I had better get on with my preparations.   Have a lovely afternoon and delcious dinner too.

Monday After First Vacation Weekend

I had a really nice long weekend stateside.  We had a delicious fish fry dinner at the Village Inn on Friday night.    That area just loves their Friday fish fries.  You see signs up everywhere for them.   Actually though we had the baked fish with almonds on top and it is sooooo good.  Just perfect after a 3-hour drive.

Saturday turned out to be quite a nice day, after the rain stopped before the golf game.  While Marc golfed I went galavanting and found some wonderful vintage cross stitch and needlepoint kits.   I was so pleased with them.    I’m going to put them on etsy sometime this week.   Here are just 2 of them.

Sunday it rained most of the day.  The hummingbirds were really acting up and actually we were quite entertained while we ate breakfast.  I filled their feeder on Friday night and on Sunday morning it was almost all gone!  It usually takes about a week for it to empty.  They were as good as squaking and chasing each other around       …they were buzzing around like honeybees.     Whenever one of them would sit on the perch for  a minute they didn’t even eat they were toooo busy being on the lookout ready to continue the chase.  I make more nectar and thought they might be behaving silly enough to sit on the perch while I held it up

They weren’t though.  I got tired of standing there and imagined them sitting on nearby branches shaking their heads at me.

After painting the Salon Cuts Teddy Bear chair a couple of weeks ago, I decided I would paint a birdhouse.  Some years ago I painted a number of them as gifts.  I attached a chair railing to the bottom and friends still have them in their garden or sitting in their kitchen.  This is what it looks like today   I hope to paint it during my vacation and I’ll share the picture with you.   I am only on Day 3 of 21 days so I should have some time.

Tomorrow Son #2 and family and mom and I are going to her cottage which is 2-1/2 hours north of me.  They are predicting some iffy kind of weather but hopefully it’ll be warm and we’ll swim and won’t mind a little wet.  I made some goodies to take with us.  Grace made them a couple of weeks ago when we were at Marcs.  She gave me the recipe but I forgot to ask what they are called.  I’m callng them Grace’s Nutty Bars.  They are soooo yummy.   This is my favourite tin.  Although its a bit Christmassy    I’m using it to bring the Nutty Bars I made with Grace’s recipe to the cottage.   I’ve left you the recipe below.  Try them you will LOVE them I’m sure.  If you try them let me know what YOU think.  If you’ve made them before leave me a comment with their proper name.

Grace’s Nutty Bars

1 stick margarine

1 cup white sugar

1 tbsp vanilla

Club crackers about 1 sleeve.

Chopped almonds and/or hazelnuts.  I used both.   Chop them up into small pieces.

Line a cookie sheet with foil paper and arrange crackers on it.   It will take 2 cookie sheets.

Melt the butter in a small saucepan and add sugar.  Cook for 2 minutes stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and add vanilla.  Use a tablespoon to spoon the mixture all over each cracker.  Scatter the nuts over the crackers.  Bake at 350F for 10 minutes.  Remove from oven and immediately place on cookie sheets to cool.   You’ll need to remove them right away or they’ll get stuck on the foil.  After cooling place in an airtight tin separating the layers with wax paper.

Have a great sweet week!

Completion of a Wonderful Vacation

Beaches in Barbados        Emerald Princess    I really could never imagine a cruise could be as fantastic as it was!  The Emerald Princess with its crew of 1200 was very accommodating to the 3070 passengers on board.  There was entertainment around every corner on the ship  The Neptune Pool  and a cruise is a great way to explore the different islands at each port.  How wonderful it was to enjoy the temperatures of the Caribbean in March and take in the beautiful beaches and coloured waters.  The ship was so huge and so beautiful that I had to constantly remember I was not in a still building or town but on a moving 19 story vessel.  The islands offered tours and adventures and the ship would dock for a day and we would get off to explore and shop.  Shopping was abundant especially in St. Thomas where jewellery store after jewellery store had competitive pricing.  This vacation is one we’ll remember forever.

Eastern Caribbean Vacation….Just About That Time

It is getting exciting we booked our Eastern Caribbean cruise a year ago and now the vacation starts this weekend.  Our cruise in on the Princess line and is for 10 days and we’ll be in Florida a couple of days both ways.  We are going with 4 other couples consisting of 3 brothers and their wives and 2 brothers and theirs (although I’m not a wife!).  Our mini suites are side-by-side and we can adjoin our balconies which is the reason we booked so far in advance.

We visit St. Thomas, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Antigua, Barbados and Princess Cayes.  I’ve never been to any of these places before and for 2 of us couples this is our first cruise.

So Many Ideas..So Little Time…

I hate the idea of going back to work on Monday…..3 weeks was not enough time…  I’m at the cottage, Marc is having his 40th class reunion this weekend. So the guys are golfing this afternoon, then we’re all going for dinner tonight. Tomorrow we will go to a wedding.

In the meantime I am going to start cutting out a pattern for a little 2 piece outfit for Madeline.  This WAS supposed to be something I was going to do while on vacation.  I also brought all kinds of other craft goodies to work on.  The day has flown so far so I’m going to get to it.

In the meantime I really am interested in yo yo’s…does ANYONE else have this problem?  Ready to get into one project barely and mind on another already?  When I go home and have access to more of my stuff I’m going to give them a try.  Thank you to Turkey Feathers for instructions on  making yoyos.  It looks like great fun.
